What are Distributions?
Distributions help you make sense of your data by organizing it based on how and from whom responses were collected. They’re essential for filtering and analyzing results across different groups within the same survey.
What Is a Distribution?
In Panoplai, a distribution is a group of respondents who share a common recruitment method or survey wave. If your survey was sent to multiple audiences or launched in multiple phases, each of those groups will show up as a separate distribution in your data.
For example:
-
If you ran a survey across three waves, each wave will appear as its own distribution.
-
If you collected responses from both anonymous panels and a client-provided list, those will be shown as separate distributions.
Distributions are automatically created by Panoplai based on how your survey is launched—no extra setup required.
Why Distributions Matter
Distributions give you clarity on where your data came from. By breaking out responses this way, you can:
-
Filter your view to focus on one distribution at a time
-
Compare across distributions to spot differences between sources or waves
Whether you’re isolating feedback from a specific group or checking for consistency over time, distributions help you drill deeper into your results.
How to Use Distributions
At the top of the results tab, expand the box containing the Survey Name by selecting the down arrow. This will allow you to see your distributions for the study.
To filter to a distribution, check only the distribution(s) you are interested in seeing:
To cut by a distribution, select "Distribution" under cut by:
💡 Tip: Use distribution cuts to validate consistency across sources or track shifts in response over time.
